Osaka

Experience the Culinary Delights that Osaka has to Offer

There is a good reason that Osaka has been named “the Nation’s Kitchen”. More than any other city in Japan, Osaka is known for its food and visitors flock here just to experience all the delicious cuisine.

Try okonomiyaki, a savory pancake filled with cabbage and your choice of meat or shrimp. It is then topped with a Worcestershire-like sauce, mayo, dried seaweed, and bonito flakes. This addictive snack is perfect to enjoy with a cold beer or sake.

Another treat is Kitsune Udon, a vegetarian dish made of thick udon noodles in a dashi broth and finished with fried tofu. This bowl of noodles is Osaka’s take on the perfect comfort food.

Make sure to try takoyaki. These croquette-like balls cooked in a special pan giving them a deep-fried texture and are filled with diced octopus, fried tempura bits, green onions, pickled ginger and then topped with takoyaki sauce, mayo, bonito flakes, and dried seaweed. There are plenty of takoyaki restaurants in Osaka so they will be easy to find.

If you are traveling with your colleagues, take a private group cooking class with Eat Osaka and learn how to make your favorite dishes.

The castle was built in the early 1600s and sits contained by two moats and the castle walls. The castle grounds feature two beautiful gardens and a tea house where you can experience a traditional Japanese tea ceremony in a tatami-mat room. If you’re in Nagoya during sakura this is the place to see the beautiful, pink blossoming cherry trees.
